The Legal Assistant/Compliance Associate position is responsible to provide support to the legal department of Farm Credit East under the direction of the General Counsel. This is a new position. The successful candidate will work as a member of a cross functional team to address the general and compliance needs of the Association.

 

The successful candidate will be required to interact with staff, senior management and outside legal counsel on various tasks to add efficiency and value to the legal department. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively, efficiently and effectively to complete projects/assignments as requested.

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Organization and maintenance of legal department files and resources including Association PEOPs, SOC disclosures and vendor contracts.
  • Regulatory and compliance related tasks required by the Association including electronic filings as needed (i.e. the NY Zombie Law, HMDA, SB 1071).
  • Assisting with ongoing Compliance Risk Assessments.
  •  Maintenance and upkeep of outside counsel list including maintaining a database of approved counsel.
  • Assisting the legal department with compiling information and responses to subpoenas and discovery requests.
  • Assist with clerical responsibilities related to the director election process, board meetings and corporate governance.
  • Support the legal department by preparing correspondence for internal and external communications.
  • Scheduling staff training and assistance in the preparation of legal training materials, as needed.
  • Monitoring best practices, keeping up with trends and introducing new ideas for improving performance.
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience as a legal assistant and/or other experience in the financial industry.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and proven skills in oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver, and be able to operate in a complex, fast paced environment.
  • Sound judgment including knowing when to appropriately consult with or seek attorney or senior management review.
  • Strong computer and software skills.
  • Team player; willing to work as a part of a dedicated legal team.
  • Requirement to travel as needed. Management reserves the right to add, subtract or change the duties of the position at any time.
  • Salary range: $50,00 - $65,000
