As a Country Living Collateral Valuation Specialist, the successful candidate will facilitate the completion and reduce the turn-around time required for a collateral evaluation/appraisal for rural residential loans and part time farmer loans originated through Farm Credit East’s Country Living loan origination team.  The role includes assisting in the collection of the required information on the property, quoting the evaluation/appraisal fee, coordinating the evaluation/appraisal request through either a third -party appraisal company or a member of our branch-based appraisal team and reviewing evaluations/appraisals completed by a third-party appraisal company for regulatory compliance with Farm Credit System regulations.


In addition, this position will collect sales to be included in our sales database, maintain a roster of third-party appraisal firms for each branch location, maintain relationships with these firms and key the required data into Farm Credit East data management system.

The employee is accountable for the following:

  • Collateral and Sales Research: Reviews and analyzes appraisal reports of staff and outside fee vendors for efficacy of their value conclusions, adherence to technical appraisal theory and methodology governing residential real property, and adherence to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. Adjudicates value conclusion discrepancies. Requires current and working knowledge of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, and appraisal theory and methodology governing residential real property. Accountable for quality assurance review of valuation products delivered to Farm Credit East. Identify, analyze and report deficiencies in the valuation product under review that are material and may impact the completeness, adequacy, relevance, and credibility of the appraisal report. Leads or participates in special project(s) as directed by management. Projects could include topics focused on corrections, reconsiderations, or targeted quality assurance risk concerns, process improvement, policy & procedures, or acting as subject matter expert (SME). Maintain knowledge of policy & procedures, Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and regulatory guidelines, appraisal theory and methodology governing residential real property. Collect sales for the Farm Credit East database. Additional duties as assigned.
  • Quality Control, Resource Information and Special Projects: Contribute to the maintenance of high-quality appraisals and collateral administration through the objective and accurate review of valuations and collateral documents prepared by Association staff.  Contribute to a well-informed credit and appraisal staff by providing timely and accurate resource information (including benchmarks, market studies and sales databases), effective training, and by completing special projects as required.
  • Marketing: Increase business by means of promotional activities and superior customer service. Provide value to customers with appropriate and timely products and services.
  • Member Relations/Teamwork: Provide outstanding customer service (both internal and external) and deliver exceptional customer experience and value by setting, communicating and meeting customer expectations. Demonstrate a strong community commitment and professional presence that contributes to the overall positive image of Farm Credit East. Act in a forthright and ethical manner, display a positive attitude and contribute positively to the overall morale of the team and association. Assist other team members and contribute to training.   


Required Qualifications

This position requires an associate’s degree in Business or a related field. Knowledge of real estate, agriculture, finance, and credit administration is preferred.  A residential appraisal license is preferred.

Strong marketing and interpersonal skills are required, as are verbal and written communications and analytical skills. Must be team oriented. The position requires the ability to travel as needed.
